16/06/2002 - Brook Farm Launch Site

Hi All,

Junes launch marked a new chapter for the Black Knights, in that it was our first launch from our new "I class flying site, Brook Farm, just south of Tamworth. Personally speaking it was great to be back on a large flying site again as I have sorely missed a large site since the foot and mouth outbreak lost our last farm based site. The finding of the flying site Nr Tamworth (thanks to club member Paul Carter) was in the nick of time. As the June launch session was the date for the Black Knights - Rocket Challenge

The winners of the Schools/Youth Groups sections were as follows:

11-14 year olds

  • Aldersley High School
  • Rocket - Little Red Booster
  • Team Leader - Nathan Bartlet
  • Flight Time - 1minute 26seconds

15 -18 year olds

  • Kingsley College
  • Rocket - Eggasperation
  • Team Learer - Richard Chowns, Antoine Diet
  • Flight Time - 56seconds

In the individual UKRA/BMFA sections only the Adult section was competed for:

  • 1st - Andrew Bevan
  • Rocket - Pray
  • Flight time - 34 seconds

  • 2nd - Alan Meredith
  • Rocket - Top Heavy
  • Flight Time - 15 seconds

Congratulations to everyone who took part Despite coming second in the adult rocket challenge Alan was June's frequent flyer with seven flights. Dave Beeton was the second most frequent flyer with six flights. John Davies managed to burn the most AP with a combined total impulse expended of approximately 560 Newton seconds. Mel Sharp put in some nice flights including a flight of Arty Detour the "Technogames" Oddroc winner that was flown on an Aerotech F29. Andrew Bevan had a nice flight of his VB29 on a D12-5. Ian and family did not have a good day. They arrived on site only to find they had forgotten to pack all the rocket motors!
