Black Knight's Launch Weekend 17th - 18th July 2004
"BK Flamer"
What a weekend!!
It started on Friday night when we all started to arrive. We all got our and each others tents up, then got straight into party mood and started to talk until near midnight, then off to bed for an early start.
Up around 6:30am and Alan and myself got the bacon going. Nothing better than the smell of bacon in the air when your camping. After a good couple of cups of coffee, we started to put up all the Gazeboo's, laid out the spectator lines and ranges.
All was completed around 11:30am then it was unpack the rockets and range boxes and start prepping.
I took turns with Mark doing the RSO'ing and watched a few rockets go up, but the weather was not really good. A bit breezey.
Anyway 6:30pm came around quite quickly and then is was time to close the range for the BBQ was was ready to scoff. Burgers and sausages went down a treat, followed by several cans of lager.
About 8:30pm we launched a few BP rockets in the twilight, and I watched them from the far end of the airstrip. Being that far back really shows a difference and how good it all looks in the light of dusk.
Alan lost his phone so Alan and I went for a long trek around all fields were we had been ringing and ringing the phone, but could not find it, so returned to the tented arena and grabbed some more dinks and then off to bed around midnight.
Sunday morning was good, still and quiet, so Phil and myself let off a few rockets to wake everyone up.
I then started to prep my renely rebuilt PML Phobos for launching, but I forgot an o-ring when making up the motor and I got a PML Roman Candle instead. (see photo galley).
Well, I then did a bit of RSO'ing and watched as Alan, Paul, Dave, Phil and others all launched nice rockets.
I was getting near 4pm when I left, the "No Dads" was hurting and my back was really giving me gip. I was sad to leave, but I had a jolly good time.
