I packed my bags and loaded all my kit into the car and left for Heckington at 10:30am on the Friday morning. The journey took the average 3 hours.

I arrived and drove around to the camp site (Pete's Garden) and foundthat Mel had also just arrived and putting up his tent. I unpacked my car and put my tent up as well. After all this, I went off into the hut with my kit and setup on a table.
First things first, I need some spare bits to repair my recent spacked PML Phobos, but Pete was not there (he had gone down to Stansted to pick up some hypertek gear that had just come in), so I visited Malcolm (Rockets & Things) and brought several packs of Estes D motors, then off for a nice chat with Tony (Apo11o) and brought several bits for my winter build project from him.
Pete arrived back from Stansted, but did not open up the shop as he was unpacking, though me and Mel did sneak in and get what we were after :-).
Back off to the hut and start fixing and drinking. It was quiet this time, no many people around, so I went to bed around 11pm.

I woke up around 8am and got my breakfast from Bill, then straight into the hut to finish off. Still needed to visit Pete's shop to get a payload section. Decision time was upon me as Pete did not have a payload section. I wanted to fly my Phobos, but using the Congreve 320H reload that Paul had got for me would put my short Phobos up to about 4700ft. At this height I really want to fly with my Traxa transmitter on board just in case, but without a payload section I could not fly the transmitter. So fly or not to fly?.
In the end I did not chance it, so I went and got a coffee with Ray and Alan (who had just turned up). Ray then disappeared off into Pete's shop with a large list, and that the last I saw of him!!! I walked down to the range with my chair and binoculars and set up next to Mel (who went down much earlier). Got comfortable and watched as Mel launched (going out live on BBC Radio!!!)

Alan and Ray turned up about 45mins later and we all got into watching the launches. Paul turned up later on and setup his stuff and I help him most of the afternoon prepping is Alarm and Archer.

The day just flew past as we watch some glorious launches, spacks and cato's. My best flight of the day was SPASE 001 which lifted off from the far end of the field on an Aerotech L motor. The flight was perfect and was incredible to watch some thing from so far away with so much power. It just powered it's way up to over 14,000ft and broke the UKRA L altitude record!!!. Well done!!

About 6pm we went back off up to the hut for drinking time and more visits to the shops as we waited for the fireworks to start around 9:30pm. They were good, loud and bright!! Well Done!!

Back off to the hut and then I went to bed about 11:30pm as my back was hurting by now.

Woke up and packed up my tent and stuff. My back was still hurting and as there was going to be no launches to around mid-day, so I left at 9am.

I had a great time and hope that our BK Flamer next year will be as good as this weekend.

Sean

Hi all, just a few lines about my day (Saturday) at K-LOB. I set off at about 5:45 in the morning to get to Rays house for 7am and from there the trip over to Hekington.
We got there at about 9.30 m. Nice clear roads all the way. Ray's car goes like a Go Cart (move over Mr. Schumacher) its Ray in his Vauxhall. The first people we saw was Sean and then Mel in the hanger, so with the tea order I made my way to the chuck wagon to get them in. Next was over to Malcolm Jennings at Rocket & Things to relieve my self of some cash and then have some more retail therapy next, I'd pop in on Tony at Apollo 11 only to see Ray with his shopping list going round like he was on Supermarket sweep (all that suger in his tea!!). I meet back with Ray at the chuck wagon for more tea and a bun only to find out that Ray was half way down his list, so back to Rocket & Things for some more therapy!! I saw Pete to offer one of my glass pieces for the raffle. He sent me to see Mike Crewe. I meet back with Ray only for him to say he needed some raffle tickets for a well known dog "Buster Perman" he gets more pocket money a week than me. So now that I was all spent up it was time to go to the range.

I have most of the early flights on tape. I will put it on to a VCR tape for those who would like to see and pass it round the club. Up at the range a old friend of the Black Knight's was Mike (the guy who likes Estes Mean Machines and his son enjoying a great day with like mind people…

PS. can I say a big thank you to Ray for the lift over and I am only pulling your leg!! great little car.

So that’s it from me only to say see you all at milson

PPS. Did buster win? if he did can you get him to pick my lotto numbers. (Sorry Alan, Ray won a Pro-38 4-grain case and I (Sean) won a Pro-38 2-grain case)

Alan
