Black Knights Stand At Weston Park 2003

On the 14/15 of June, the Black Knights were asked to put on a display for the Weston Park International Model Air Show.

Dave, Ray and myself (Alan) volunteered to man the club stand for the 2 days of the show.

I (Alan) arrived at the park on friday at 5pm with my family and set up our tent to camp for the weekend. Later we met up with Dave and assembled the Black Knights marquee (which Dave provided) to exhibit our rockets and information on the club.
After erecting our rather large marquee, a few beers were needed. We sat outside the beer tent with a disco and karaoke going on inside. The best laugh of the night was putting Dave's tent up in the dark (10 pounds from Lidl), if he hadn't of had a few beers ,he would never of got in it. It was all of 5x3. I think he slept sitting up!!.

Saturday morning we all attended the flyers briefing. We were told the rocket slot would be 3:20pm that afternoon and the same on the sunday. Thinking we would
have lots of time to prepare our rockets we were very wrong, as the amount of people that came to the stand to see the rockets displayed and to ask questions like (how much per flight?) and (how high do they go) which soon took up most of the day.

We decided to fly a flying saucer, my Executioner, my Graduator, Ray's Matrix and Dave's 1/4 scale patriot. Just in time Mark and Liz arrived with Andrew Bevan.

Mark stayed with the stand, Liz and Andrew came onto the flight line to
help setup. Ray's rocket was ready to go and this awoke the crowd which were asleep from all the planes doing the same stunts for hours. My wife said there was a big gasp from the crowd as it lifted off on a H motor.

The other rockets all flew with Dave's patriot being the star of the show.

Sunday morning we were told by the show HQ that our slot had been cancelled due to them running behind. Dave said that's not on as we've spent too much time and effort into putting on a show. He went to plead our case at the show HQ, which they said
they would find time for just two rockets.

At 3:30pm they allowed Dave to fly two rockets his Endeavor and his Patriot which were a rocketing success. It was a very enjoyable weekend helped by the great weather we had

Regards,

Alan Meredith.
